Strangely enough the MOL astronauts only knew of the cover story that the program would be a space laboratory for military experiments and did not learn of the reconnaissance role until after selection.

Well … I learned something new. Dated 1969, there were plans to continue using the Gemini vehicle as a component of MOL even as Gemini was left behind by Apollo. You would think Gemini would be considered obsolete by then
